The SIMS Class Online

What’s a SIMS? SIMS stands for Surgical Impotence Management Strategy. The class was originally designed as a way to educate men about the changes in erections that occur after a robotic radical prostatectomy. We began over 20 years ago at Minnesota Urology (then Metro Urology) educating men in a lecture format on a monthly basis. After a class or two it became obvious that we needed to expand the scope of the class to discuss postoperative care issues and urinary incontinence as well as impotence. This page contains a video I made about the SIMS class that became a very important tool during COVID-19 and men continue to find it helpful.

Part of the SIMS program is an education about vacuum erection devices (VED) by a patient educator. Although I do not have a video for VED education I was able to interview our patient educator about the VED when I was recording podcast episodes for the (now defunct) Why Urology Podcast. They are worth a listen.

Here is the online video version of the SIMS class. You can download a copy of the slides in the link below.

Vacuum Erection Device Education

Several years ago I recorded a podcast episode with a Men’s Health Educator that is an excellent review/preview of the second phase of penile rehabilitation, the use of a Vacuum Erection Device.

Kegel Exercises

Kegel Exercises help men regain urinary control. This podcast episode focused on Kegel Exercises for men after Prostate Cancer Surgery.
