Stress incontinence in men, is commonly caused by prostate surgery or prostate cancer treatment.

Patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) notice leakage when they are coughing, lifting heavy objects, and/or performing strenuous activities.

the reason that men have urinary leakage after prostate removal has several factors. A weakened urinary sphincter muscle, poor coptation of the urethral mucosa, or changes in the angle where the bladder and the urehra meet causes stress urinary incontinence
Treatment for stress incontinence depends on the degree of incontinence, i.e. how much leakage is occurring.

Men with the largest amount of leakage need an Artificial Uurinary Sphincter (AUS). Men who have received radiation for treatment of their prostate cancer also need to have an artificial urinary sphincter placed.

Although patients may believe that incontinence may happen only with surgery, many patients can experience stress urinary leakage or incontinence from a weakened sphincter muscle following radiation treatment as well. Men who have had radiation require an artificial urinary sphincter
